PBXpress - Configuration

Configuration: SYSTEM » EXTENSIONS » CONNECTIONS

  • Click on each picture for a full-size screen shot.

Click "Extensions" tab at the top of the screen to get to the Extensions screen. Now you need to add telephone extensions to your PBXpress system:

Fill in the extension phone number, phone password, abbreviated phone number (used for calling within your LAN) and the display name. This name will appear on Caller ID enabled phones if a call originated from this telephone. Click "Apply" to add the extension:

Your extension is now added. Add further extensions using the same procedure:

All your extensions are now added. You now need to find available SIP devices so that you can associate telephone extension details with them:

Click "Phones". PBXpress will automatically detect your LAN IP boundaries:

Click "Search" to start scanning your LAN for SIP devices. A status message and bar will be shown while scanning progresses:

At the end of the search a list of all SIP devices available on your network will appear:

You may now assign extensions to the SIP devices. Select extensions from the pull down list next to listed SIP device:

Click on the button next to selection you have made to apply your selection:

A configuration progress dialog will appear while each extension is being assigned to a SIP device:

If a SIP device is password protected and requires authorization a dialog will be displayed asking for a login and password. This should have been provided with the device:

If PBXpress was able to configure the device automatically the "Configuration Successful" dialog will appear:

PBXpress can automatically configure the following devices. For a complete list of compatible devices click here:

  • iptel.org's TT phone
  • Sipura SPA-1000, SPA-2000, SPA-3000
  • Cisco ATA 186, ATA 188
  • Cisco IP Phones 7905G, 7912G, 7940G, 7960G

If manual device configuration is required complete configuration instructions for the device will appear on the screen. Here is an example display of manual configuration instructions. The display on your screen may be different:

After you close the configuration dialogs PBXpress will scan the LAN again to refresh the updated configuration details. On completion of this final search your PBXpress system will be ready for use:

At the end of the search a list of all SIP devices available on your network will appear. You will notice that the SIP phone is now registered:

You may now assign your telephone extension details to another SIP device. Select extension from the pull down list next to the listed SIP device. Note that previously assigned extensions disappear from the list of available selections. In order to re-assign an extension to another SIP device, you will have to unregister it from its current assignment:

On completion of this configuration your SIP phones are registered. You can test the operation by calling each phone's Extension #:

By default, the system uses E.164 numbering plan. You may configure Dialing Rules for your convenience:

You may now configure call recording for the extension:
