How To Use PBXpress with SIP TAPI

SIP TAPI enables you to use your computer to dial a contact from applications such as Microsoft Outlook or Windows Address Book. After you dial a number from your computer, your PBXpress connected phone will ring. After you pick it up, PBXpress will connect your call to the party you have dialed.

SIP TAPI is a Windows TAPI driver, which enables SIP click2dial functionality from TAPI applications like Microsoft Outlook.

1. Installing SIP TAPI

Open PBXpress User Interface, select Properties on the top tab list, then click Services on the left. Click "SIP TAPI" link in order to download SIP TAPI.

You will be presented with a File Save dialog. Save the file to your \Windows\System32 directory.

Save siptapi.tsp to your \Windows\System32 directory.

Open Windows Control Panel. There, click the Phone and Modem Options icon.

In the configuration window, click Advanced.

Click Add, then select SIP TAPI Service Provider from the list. Click Add in the "Add Provider" window.

Do not close the "Phone and Modem Options" window yet.

2. Configuring SIP TAPI

In the "Phone and Modem Options" window, select SIP TAPI Service Provider and click Configure.

In the PBXpress User Interface, click the green SIP TAPI icon.

You will be presented with a pop-up window telling you the details you will need to configure SIP TAPI. Now, configure your username, password, SIP domain and outbound proxy with the details you obtained from PBXpress.

3. Configuring Windows to route your phone calls through SIP TAPI.

Click Start - Run, and type "dialer.exe" in the "Open" line.

In the Dialer, click Edit - Configure.

Select "Phone" as your "Preferred line for calling", and "SIP TAPI" as a line used for phone calls.

Click OK to close the window.

3. Configuring Windows dialing rules

In the Phone and Modem Options, select Dialing Rules. Make sure that your Windows dialing rules do not conflict with the PBXpress settings.

4. Dialing from Outlook Express / Windows Address Book

Open Windows Address Book.

Right-click a contact you wish to call. Select Action - Dial.

Click Call to call the contact.
